yoga kick

by Sarah Zinkel on June 29, 2012

isn’t it funny how one small thing can change your daily life drastically?

i took a yoga class last weekend and our instructor shared this quote with us (i know i shared this last sunday too. bear with me.)

we show up, burn brightly, live passionately, hold nothing back. -meditations from the mat

i think the combination of that quote that really stayed with me and the amazing morning yoga on the rooftop lit a little spark inside of me.

now i’m on a yoga kick. i have found that practicing yoga, even for just a short time most days, has had a huge impact on my thoughts and general attitude each day.

i’d say this has come at a perfect time.

i’ve been feeling ridiculously overwhelmed with writing my dissertation and some other things going on behind the scenes here and i really need an outlet.

stack of books - dissertation writing

i know running/half marathon training would be a good outlet to some, but i’m pretty sure that i do better with running when i don’t have a plan and can do what i want when i want to (gah. still sticking w/ that training plan though). right now my training has been just one more thing on my list that adds to my stress.

when i do yoga, i finish feeling relaxed and energized at the same time!

i’m loving it and am hoping that with this increased practice comes more strength and flexibility!

so tell me,

do you practice yoga regularly?

what’s your favorite way to reduce stress and energize yourself?

Yoga is amazing, I agree. The feeling after a class is like no other. I used to go to Inner Fire five times a week, but now that I don’t live downtown, it’s too far away. Now I go whenever I can buy a Groupon :) The Studio right by Sardine is fantastic also.

Yoga is my sanity saver, it is so helpful to clear my mind. 2-3 times a week of hot or sculpt.

Half marathon training can definitely feel like a chore sometimes! I was so glad not to be training when I was out this morning. Keep sticking with it though – it’ll pay off in the end :)
I LOVE yoga! Taking classes and just doing it on my own. Have you ever tried hot yoga? It’s the grand opening of Dragonfly Hot Yoga’s new studio on the westside this weekend. Come visit us!!
