tying up loose ends

in food, meals

ok, sorry for my teaser of a post yesterday. the morning got away from me & i didn’t have time to type out my thoughts on my juice cleanse/my meals from the weekend.

so first of all, overall, i had a great experience with the juice fast. i think it definitely did help to “reset” my body after an especially indulgent week that topped off several weeks of not eating the best.

i do wish i had kept it up for at least a whole week. that was my original goal, and i hate not meeting my goals.

that being said, i really really wanted to eat. for the first five days, drinking 2-3 large juices plus a “juice smoothie” or two a day was going perfectly fine for me.

i made the smoothies with fresh juice, a scoop or two of protein powder, a banana and/or spinach, and some chia seeds.

i wanted to keep them “detox friendly”, which just meant to me that they were vegan and gluten free. i think that it really helped me to incorporate the smoothies into my diet. although i think i could have done a true juice fast, it would have definitely been more difficult.

i am really glad i gave it a chance, and i think i will definitely try to go for a whole week sometime soon. i loved how i felt while on the cleanse, and it really gave me momentum to keep up the clean eating now that i’m done.

oh yeah, the cleanse also introduced me to my new favorite, all-fruit, juice!

i usually try to make my juices primarily vegetable (carrots, celery, and cucumbers are my go-to choices), but i really wanted a delicious sweet drink on friday morning & this combination definitely satisfied!

p.s. look at the juice in the bottom photo (actually taken immediately after juicing) and the top two (after settling a bit). she was so much prettier after the layers formed and the colors became so much more saturated. i love it!

anyway, the point of all of that rambling is to say: i’m not doing the juice cleanse anymore, but i enjoyed it & thought it was good for me and i will probably do another in the near future.

i’ll be back with regular meals tomorrow (and recipes for those delicious meals i teased you with photos of yesterday…!)

today is a big day. i’m meeting with some of my committee members to talk about graduation plans, have a couple seminars to attend, and have another photography class tonight. plus i found my first “potential” job last night – aka the first one that i feel compelled at all to apply to – so i need to get started on my application. it’s starting to feel real that i’m graduating this year!

*****

now i’m thinking about job applications.

do you have any advice for me?

it’s my first time applying for a real job!

how many jobs did you apply for when you were just getting started?

I love how cleanses can reset you and remind you of old favorites. All the juicing lately makes me want to get a juicer!

Good luck with the job apps! My advice is to apply for anything you’re remotely interested in – the more you interview, the better you get at it.

Right out of undergrad, probably about 8. But the economy was really really good and I didn’t have problems finding anything. Once I finished my MBA I was still working full time and looked around a lot until I found 5-10 things to apply for an only ended up with 2 interviews, granted the economy was bad then. Now that I am doing a search once again I have applied for a lot (but I am sitting at home all day applying at jobs) so maybe about 40 but I have had 10 phone screens, 6 in person interviews, 2 offers and one more 2nd round interview to go to later this week. Crazy!

i absolutely loved how that juice looked, especially since i usually have to force myself to stop thinking about how much the color of my juices resembles mud or poopy water. ewww…

i just posted my 11 things post! thanks for tagging me. :)

Those pictures are awesome – I’m loving all the photos on your site these days!

My advice is to do some practice interviews. Also, think in advance about different group settings/projects you’ve been in so you can answer all the situational questions about teamwork, conflict, leadership and the like.

Good luck!

thanks for the compliment on my pictures, michelle! :) i’m trying to improve them!

and thank you so much for the advice on the job search. i’m also trying to make sure that i can give concrete examples of all off the skills & strengths that i include in my cover letters/cv. ahhh, this is nerve-wracking!

I have a question ~ how much settling did that take, time-wise? Also, does your juice have low/high options or just one setting, and which one do you use?

hmm, i guess it settled for about 10-15 minutes while i set up and took the photos. maybe 5 minutes after juicing to the first photo (although i poured the juice from a pyrex measuring cup into the glasses right before the first photo) and then maybe i spent 5 or 10 minutes taking the rest of the pictures…

and my juicer only has one setting – i bet it would correspond to high though…
