first of all, when i say home-gym, i mean big crate full of workout gear that we keep hidden away in our closet because it’s not the prettiest thing to look at.
now that we have that clear, i wanted to share two new-to-me pieces of equipment that i added to our home-fitness collection recently.
first up is this ab-roller.
it’s old school, but killer.
every time i do it, my core is on fire for the next couple days. it’s ridiculous. plus, it hits some ab muscles that don’t usually feel sore after other ab workouts. woop!
second thing is a jump rope!
when i’m working at home, i love to take a quick jumping break to get my heart rate up. i’ve also done a couple jumping interval workouts. jump for 3-5 minutes at a moderate pace to warm up. then alternate jumping as fast as possible for a minute and then a 30-60 seconds of whatever moves i’m feeling like. push-ups, various crunches, burpees, lunges, planks, etc. are great ones to put in there.
i’m loving that i’ve got a couple new things to pull into my workouts to change things up.
i got both of them at marshalls about a month ago on clearance. i think i paid $6 for the ab roller and $9 for the weighted jump rope. can’t beat that!
anyway, i’ve been having gym aversions lately, so i’m really enjoying amping up my at-home workouts! the jump rope & ab roller help!
other equipment in my at-home gym: yoga mats, light hand weights, an exercise ball, a chin-up bar, perfect push-ups, some resistance bands, a foam roller (for after my workouts), yoga dvd’s, insanity, and the 30 day shred. it’s not very much, but it works!

REB and I work out at home mostly. We do the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred which is all about circuit/interval training. I like it best since it keeps things moving and it’s different (not just running on a treadmill for an hour or whatever). That’s not to say we don’t utilize our apartment complex gym, because we do
We sometimes go there to do cardio for 30 minutes and then we do weights there for another 30 minutes.
I think the key thing for me is that he works out with me. Otherwise I wouldn’t have enough motivation. Sad, but true :\

i wish i didn’t have to go to the gym to use cardio equipment… on gross days when i can’t get outside to run, it would be great to hop on the elliptical while i watched a little tv or something.
jumpropes are great for at home workouts. i don’t actually have one, but i just pretend. it works well. i even move my wrists around like i’m actually twirling one! imagination is everything, right

haha, yes! i’ve definitely done the pretend jump rope before. it works! it’s definitely harder for me with a real jumprope though. this way i actually have to make sure i don’t jump on the rope or tangle up my feet!
I have to go to the gym or I won’t work out, I need that time away for myself.

that’s why i’ve been loving my runs lately. the weather is gorgeous and it’s so much easier to think clearly when i’m outside!
I work out a a gym for a few reasons, the most important being that they watch my kid.
I also really like a variety of classes so I can keep it fresh.
But, when my kids were younger, I did a lot of home workouts.
My favorite piece of equipment is probably my yoga mat.

my gym doesn’t really have classes, but when this membership is up, we’re definitely going to join one with classes. when i used to belong to the y, sometimes i’d do 3 classes in a row just because they all sounded interesting!!
I love using my own body weight for exercising. Oh or dragging a tire…. That is really really hard (especially if you put a dumb bell in it) but I always feel like I could take on the world after I do it!

dragging a tire?!? wow, that’s hardcore.
I work out at the gym or run outside. For whatever reason, I am extremely motivated when it comes to working out anywhere but my house
My husband did P90X for a while last year and I only joined him for a few of the yoga sessions. Not sure why this is… However, I think if I bought a treadmill and had it set up in front of the TV, I would definitely use it. Way to squeeze in little burts of exercise throughout the day at home!

someday i want to have a treadmill or elliptical (or both!) in my house in front of a tv. when i actually go to the gym for my workouts, i can spend way longer on a machine if it’s got a tv on it!
i really like working out at home lately…i think it’s because i’ve been dreading going to the gym for whatever reason…
I didn’t know you did Insanity. I am a BeachBody coach. We should chat about it sometime.
i’ve never done the entire insanity program, but i bought i on craigslist at a great price a couple years ago and now i like to do workouts here & there to change things up at home. i definitely want to do the whole 60 day program at some point…not sure when though!
i didn’t know you were a beachbody coach! that’s cool. have you done the whole insanity program? i’m a little intimidated to try the whole thing…
Love that ab roller. I don’t have one, but I have used one before. I need to look into buying one! I love going to the gym, but with 3 kiddos often squeeze my workout in at home- treadmill and good ol’ body weight is what I do most.

check marshalls or tj maxx for an ab roller! like i said, this one was $6. you can’t really beat that price!
plus it’s killer. my abs burn like crazy when i use it.
