it’s the first day of the second week of 2011. how are your new years goals/resolutions coming along?
i want to make sure i continue to evaluate my progress on my goals, and to post my progress on this blog. one of my personal goals was to meditate for 5 minutes every day. i didn’t realize how difficult this goal would be! one of the problems is that i’ve never really meditated before. after reading and watching eat pray love, i had the basic idea that you sit and try to clear your mind. that’s all i was going on. after day one of trying to keep my mind clear for 5 minutes while breathing deeply (am i doing this right? should i be saying ohm? sitting on the floor on a pillow?)
i decided to look up some tips on meditating. i found a great resource for beginner meditators like myself from oprah.com called the one moment meditation 30-day plan.
click on the link to find out all of the details, but basically this program is based on the idea that once you’re good at it, you can clear your mind for as short as one minute and get the benefits that most people associate with longer meditation sessions: a clearer mind, feeling more balanced, and feeling refreshed/calm.
i’ve started sneaking in these one minutes of meditation while at work when i’m taking a 5 minute break. that way, even if i don’t meditate for the whole 5 minutes at home, i have still meditated that day!
one meditation tip that i discovered right away: empty your bladder before you empty your mind – it is VERY difficult to clear your thoughts, even for just a minute, if you really have to go. just saying.
how are you doing on your new years resolutions?
get excited. tomorrow i’ll post a review of the restaurant where brad and i ate breakfast this morning! (the veggie omelet didn’t happen…) here’s a little sneak peek of a treat we brought home:
