we’re continuing our mission to try all of the pizza places in sun prairie!
we recently tried salvatore’s tomato pies and, not to give away the punch line, but this was the best pizza i’ve ever had!
bold statement, i know.
let’s back up though. as soon as i checked out salvatore’s website, i knew we were in for a treat. a family-owned business? organic heirloom tomatoes? locally sourced vegetables, cheese, and meats? sign me up.
we called and placed an order for delivery so we could enjoy this during a packers game.
we ordered the farmer john’s smoked gouda special (with organic heirloom tomatoes from emerald meadow farm, farmer john’s smoked gouda, local portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, heirloom garlic, and jordandal bacon) and an order of smoky cheese bread.
ordering was painless and the pizza arrived in about 40 minutes.
we enjoyed the hand-written note on the box.

but that didn’t even compare to the pizza.
you could just tell that all of the ingredients were of super high quality. the portobello mushrooms and bacon totally put this over the top for me.
the pizza was a little pricey, but it was on par with other pizza places in sun prairie, and the quality was so much better!
i’m going to have a hard time trying any other pizza now. salvatore’s is the one to beat!

i wasn’t really in love with deep dish pizza the one time i had it in chicago. maybe we went to the wrong place though…
YUM! That looks like pizza heaven. My favorite pizza is the margherita (sp?) from glass nickel!

i’ve never had margherita pizza from glass nickel! now i want to try it. we always get fetalicious or border to border from there!
Aside from the pizza we make (which, no lie, is pretty damn good), the best pizza I had was NY Style in NYC in 2011! It was so delicious. I love that kind of pizza, or super thin and crispy crust. The pizza we had in Venice was pretty good, too. They’re known for pizza there apparently!

mmmm, ok, i do love ny pizza. i was only there once, a long time ago, so i’m not sure how accurate my memory is, but i had a slice of white pizza that blew my mind!
oh yeah, and you mean a city in italy has good italian food?! shocking! haha!
I’m glad you finally got to Salvatore’s! It is our favorite. We were going to order it for dinner last night but they are closed on Mondays. It is definitely one of my top pizza places, but I don’t know if it tops Cafe Porta Alba. Have you been there?

their hours are a bit of a bummer. not open til 4pm either! boo. what if there is a noon packers or badgers game?!?
we haven’t tried cafe porta alba – is it in s.p.?! i’ll add it to the list!
Porta Alba is in Hilldale Mall and is amazing. A perfect date night meal or night out with friends. Plus Sundance is right there!

oh you’ve GOT to have a go-to pizza delivery place. it’s like a rule of life or something.
I looooooooove that place too! You have to try the fig pizza. Amazing
My husband and I just had it on Friday.
Thanks so much for the kind words about our little place in Sun Prairie! We’re glad you enjoyed your meal. We put a lot of effort into our pizzas, and use as much local ingredients as possible, and that’s why it tastes better! Most of our produce is organic and comes from local farms. Our meats are locally raised, even our pepperoni comes from heirloom breed hogs, raised here in Dane County and cured by Underground Meats in Madison. Cheese comes from Grande, in Wyocena, and Farmer John in Arena. And as far as we know, we are the only pizza restaurant around that uses flour milled from Organic Wisconsin whole wheat, by our friends at lonesome Stone Milling in Lone Rock. Anyway, we’re just happy that you could tell how fresh everything was and sincerely appreciate your visit. Thanks again, and take care!
Oh, and we’re planning on attempting to open at 11am in November!

I love the handwritten note! I wonder if it is like when you write a letter to the president and it is not actually him that writes you back, of that actually is Sal? Thoughts?
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen recently posted…Buggin’ Out [WIAW]
Alas, it’s not sal himself. Sal is 4 years old, a terribly demanding boss, and he’s yet to master writing skills. So mostly it is I, his dad, or when we run out of boxes when busy, various staff members!
NOM. Now I want pizza. A treat for me is goat cheese on pizza!

There was this place I went in Park Forest (south suburbs) years ago when I was a teenager. It was called Marcelloni’s or something similar to that. At the time, I remember it as being the best pizza ever. It wasn’t deep dish but more like a pan pizza. It was just wonderful. Some of the best I’ve ever had recently was at Dominick’s Pizza in Villa Park (west suburbs). Simply an amazing pizza!
