good morning!
i’m feeling a little tired today. i was up a little later than usual and had a couple beers last night, so i think i’m a little off.
no worries, though!
i’m plowing through it with the 29th seven things sunday!
1. i’ve been adding a new item to my smoothies lately.
i was sent this protein powder to try from nutrition fix, which is a new online sports nutrition and fitness store. they sell vitamins, supplements, high-protein and pre-workout mixes and more on their site. the protein powder i tried is from their protein supplement shop. i browsed through it and saw a lot of different protein options including soy, whey, and egg-based protein powders. honestly, i was surprised to see how many protein powders they carried!
my thoughts on the protein powder? i like the flavor – it adds a bit of sweetness to my smoothies, which is nice. i’m not a big fan of the ingredients list though. i don’t think i’d buy this specific powder again, but i was happy to see plenty of other options on nutrition fix that i would try!
2. look at this little face.
this is rose. our neighbors’ new basset hound + beagle mix puppy! she is the sweetest little thing.
look at those ears!
i brought jake & capone over to play with her and her brother yesterday morning and it was a dog party!
they loved it.
3. i had a fun little shopping trip at marshall’s earlier in the week and picked out some new flavored coffees.
we’ve been drinking the butter toffee and it’s really tasty! i like picking out coffee at marshall’s or tj maxx – you really can’t beat the prices! plus, if we don’t like them, at least we didn’t pay a lot for it!
4. my smoothies have been the product of much experimentation lately…
i’ve seen other bloggers use guar gum and xanthan gum to thicken their smoothies in the past, so i ordered these in my last vitacost order. i haven’t tried them yet though… i think i need to check out a couple blogs to see how much to add, etc. i’m excited to try them though!
i also got these sample packs of protein powder with that vitacost order. each time you order from vitacost, you can choose two free samples from a list of usually about 20 things. i always remember to pick my free samples! plus, the list of options is always changing, so i constantly get to try something new.
5. do you guys follow katie from healthy diva eats?
she’s doing a cool thing this month called mantra may. basically, you can submit a mantra to her anytime throughout the month and each week she picks one winner to win a prize.
i won the first week and my prize arrived recently….
sunwarrior!!!
i have been wanting to try this protein powder for such a long time after hearing so many people say that it’s their favorite. i haven’t tried it yet since i seem to have an abundance of protein powders at this time. i’m afraid that i’ll love this so much that i won’t want to use the rest of the powders & then that would be a waste…
i’ll keep you updated on what i think once i finally try it!
6. i started using a new position for my work-at-home days…
i finally moved my work station to our breakfast bar so i can stand while i’m working.
this is definitely not ideal because i prefer to use our much newer/faster desktop computer with the huge monitor, but it works for writing and reading. doing stats on my little macbook is pretty impossible though.
overall, i’m a fan. it’s a nice change!
7. don’t forget to enter my giveaway for some free trop50 juice!
i’ll pick 3 winners, who will each win 3 free bottles, tomorrow!
***
do make smoothies often?
do you change them up or do you stick with the same combination?
what’s your favorite protein powder?
i’ve tried lots of them in the past and haven’t found one yet that i absolutely love and stick with.

i KNOW! they kill me every time.
I use guar gum in all my smoothies – it make it perfectly thick! Start with a pinch and work your way up, depending on the amount of liquid you use. I probably only use 1/8 tsp of the gum.
Standing up while working is my ideal situation – I always work at my bar when I’m at home. I’m showing my boss the article about it that I posted Friday… it probably won’t work, but I’m trying to build a case for a standing desk at work.

thanks so much for the tips on the guar gum! i haven’t tried it yet because i’ve been using frozen fruit, which keeps things a little on the thick side. i’ve got some fresh berries that i think i’ll try tomorrow though.
reading that article you posted on friday is what inspired me to finally set up a little standing work station for myself.
That’s awesome! I’m still working on getting my boss to help me get that set up in our office, but I use the bar in my condo when I am working from home.

The gums are AWESOME! Especially xathan gum! Just make sure you don’t add too much, or it’ll make things kind of… gelatinous, haha
