good morning!
is anyone else missing that hour of sleep from last night?
i was in the kitchen around 9pm, and realized that it was kind of like 10pm and if i wanted to get up at 6 or 7 today, i should think about going to bed within the next hour or two… that didn’t really happen thanks to some late-night macaroon making and a burnt batch of black beans. the whole apartment smelled after that, but thankfully all i smell this morning are delicious coconut macaroons!
despite my missing hour of sleep, i am pumped to have the light last longer though. yay for later evening walks with the pups!
ok, i hope you don’t judge me for this, but today’s 7 things is going to be almost all about new-to-me products that i’m loving lately.
what can i say?
i like to try new things!
ready?
1. i had no willpower when i went on my errands yesterday.
despite the fact that three of these guys already lived in my spice cabinet, i had to get the pink himalayan sea salt & the south african smoke seasoning.
i might have a slight spice grinder addiction…
i originally had a cinnamon sugar grinder in my hands too. i put that on back though.
see? i could be worse!
2. i am obsessed with these little cheeses from co-op.
they have a little basket in their dairy case where they put these very small and manageable chunks of very nice cheese. i’m not sure if it’s the leftover ends of a big chunk or if they just do it because they’re awesome, but it’s pretty great!
this way i can try those $11-20 per pound cheeses and i don’t have to commit to just one flavor.
i paid just over a dollar for each of these.
not bad…
3. i’m on my own this morning.
brad is taking a nutrition course this weekend and he has class today until 1 or 2 this afternoon… he was also at this class from 8:30am-5pm yesterday.
that kinda sucks since sundays are usually our days to make a nice breakfast and hang out together since it’s the only day every week where neither of us has to work.
i’m sure i’ll find ways to occupy myself, though!
4. we all know i’m pretty much in love with chobani, right?
(see my beautiful wall of chobani in this post if you’re not convinced…)
so i’m sure you can imagine my reaction when i found out that i won a case of chobani from cassie’s raffle (to raise money for the breast cancer walk she’s participating in…).
and then you can imagine how much more excited i was to see this box on my porch after work last week…
and how i squealed with delight to open it and find this gorgeous assortment of yogurts! (yes, i think it’s gorgeous.)
(and yes, i did turn the yogurts to make sure the labels were all in the correct orientation.)
5. heather and kelly are wonderful!
that statement doesn’t really need any explanation, but i’ll give you a tiny bit of one anyway.
i came home two days in the past week-ish to find envelopes from b&z headquarters and ths headquarters waiting for me.
i guess both ladies saw my post about my first time trying vega after ashley sent it to me & knew that i really liked it.
and both had a packet or two of the very same vega sitting around in their pantry (in a swag bag from hls or something, ladies?!?).
and both decided that i would like it more than & use it before they did.
so i received 3 more of these guys to enjoy after my workouts!
kelly also sent me a couple of amazing grass packets.
i tried the amazing trio one from ashley, but i haven’t tried the green superfood yet. i can’t wait!
thank you so much for thinking of me, heather & kelly! i feel very spoiled.
6. dehydrator.
brown rice syrup.
macaroons.
3 firsts for me all in one go!
the recipe for macaroons that i followed called for brown rice syrup.
at first i thought i wouldn’t be able to find it locally without paying $10 for a little container of it, so i was searching for other brown rice syrup-less recipes for macaroons. but then i found this syrup at the co-op on weekly special for less than $4!
score!
in retrospect, i’m pretty sure i accidently added a 1/2 cup of the syrup to the macaroon batter instead of only 1/4 cup as the recipe called for. the mixture had a lot of moisture when i was scooping out the macaroons and when i checked this morning, there was a puddle of syrup on the collecting try at the bottom of the dehydrator.
the macaroons have been going at 105* for almost 10 hours now, so i think i’ll try one soon!
i hope they’re good despite the extra syrup….
i would hate for my first dehydrator attempt to be a fail.
7. my fitbit came in the mail this week!
after seeing laura talk about how much she loves hers, i was very intrigued. i did some research and compared the fitbit, bodybugg, and nike+ fuelband.
i eventually decided to go with the fitbit, and i’ve got to say that i’m loving it so far!
i’ll definitely be back with a more formal review of it after i use it for more than 3 days, but things are looking good.
i love seeing how many steps i take, how much time i spend being sedentary/light active/very active and having my sleep efficiency tracked.
it’s very cool.
***
just tried a macaroon – they’re definitely not done yet. i’m thinking another couple hours should do it.
and now i’m going to crawl back into bed for another hour-ish of sleep before i tackle this day!
***
p.s. you still have 15 hours to enter my giveaway for some pretty delicious protein powder. (sorry if you tried to enter between midnight last night and 7am this morning. it was likely user error (aka me.). the giveaway is open until midnight tonight & i’ll announce the winner tomorrow!

Just got back from 4 months in NZ with my husband and reunited with that exact dehydrator!! yea. Gonna make those, maybe not this sunday, but soon.
Thanks Sarah
yes! do you have other favorite things to make with your dehydrator?
I can’t wait to hear what you think about the FitBit! I’m really curious about these types of products and their accuracy.
One thing for Sunday… I’m a little sad it’s spring forward time… but I ver set my clocks from the last change, so no biggie there.

i’m so curious about it’s accuracy too! i’m taking that and my heart rate monitor with me to the gym today to really compare what it tells me i’m burning for calories, and tracking my distance, etc.! i’m doing my own little experiment.
Thats too funny that both Heather and I sent you Vega!
Ever since Laura started talking on the fitbit I’ve been very tempted by it! I can’t wait to see how you like it.
Kelly recently posted…Project Runway All Stars Episode 10
yes! i was even wondering if the two of you discussed it before sending.
yay for brown rice sryup! can’t wait to hear about the fitbit. i’m trying to decide between that and nikefuel for my bday!!

i’m definitely going to your recipes to find more uses for the brown rice syrup – i know i’ve seen you use it many times!
ok, i will talk about the fitbit again soon! have you read ashley (coffee cake cardio)’s blog? she has the nike fuel and seems to really like it! her blog is where i first heard of it…
I am really excited to see what you have to say about the Fitbit! I (like Lindsay) am debating about the Nike Fuel Band …

after i’ve used it for at least a week, i’ll definitely talk about it a bit more! sneak peek on my thoughts: i’m on day 4 and i LOVE it!
I made french toast with that green superfood and it was so good! I mixed 1/2 scoop brown rice protein powder, that superfood packet and cinnamon together with 1/2 egg beaters. Delish! Have a wonderful Sunday.

oh wow! i would have NEVER thought of using it in french toast! i was just planning to toss those packets in with smoothies!
I love exploring different seasonings so those salts look fantastic! I am so so jealous about the Chobani, I just can’t find the flavoured ones over her in the UK
That fitbit sounds great, I need to get something like that, I think it would be a really positive for my fitness

oh sad – the flavored chobanis are my favorite snack! hopefully they make their way over there soon!
One thing?

MICHIGAN STATE IS THE NUMBER ONE SEED!! GO GREEN!
I love your 7 things Sunday posts! Sounds like you had a great weekend and great day so far!

hahaha, that is exciting for you! i know you guys are football fans, do you get into basketball a lot too? or just march madness? or just michigan state? i pretend to be interested when the badgers play or when march madness rolls around, but i usually just fill out a bracket or two and wait for brad to tell me if my teams are doing well or not….
We are definitely a football household. I do follow college basketball, but not as hardcore as some of my friends. I just fill out a bracket every year for fun

Congratulations on winning the giveaway! That is one good lookin’ case, if we must say. Can’t wait to hear which flavor is your favorite.
That chocolate & coffee grinder from Trader Joe’s looks incredible; it’d be perfect to dress up our Plain or Vanilla cups!
Lindsay @ Chobani recently posted…Chobaniacs Go Crazy For Cheesecake!
thanks, lindsay! i’ve never tried the strawberry banana flavor so i was pumped to see that one included in the case! i have a different favorite flavor every day, today i like the sound of blood orange, mango, or pineapple!
1. I have a lot of that protein powder from HLS. I do not like it so consider it yours! Perhaps we need to meet up soon!!

2. The spice grinders from TJ’s are the best. The sugar/chocolate/coffee one is great on buttered toast.
3. I want to purchase a dehydrator for the sole purpose of making macaroons.
Jessica @ Healthy Dairyland recently posted…Just How I Like It
how about we meet at red mango or go for a run next time you’re in town and i’ll trade you a batch of macaroons in the flavor of your choice for that protein powder?
deal?
Um, I don’t even know where to start on replying to all your Sunday awesomeness this week!
Himalayan Pink grinder has been my go-to for the past couple of years… the color makes me happy.
My other go-to is the multi-colored peppercorns ~ more exciting than just boring black! Cinnamon Sugar sounds like something I may need to try next time…
I have a little cheese envy. I have a LOT of Chobani envy!!!

i finally used the himalayan pink grinder last night on my sweet & salty brussels sprouts (yes again…i can’t get enough of them!).
