restaurant review: marigold kitchen

by Sarah Zinkel on July 17, 2012

in a brief morning of feeling well this weekend, i joined my friend at the dane county farmers market. except we didn’t realize that this weekend was art fair on the square, so the market was contained to a couple blocks of a side street and was not nearly as amazing as usual. we still stocked up on some veggies and then decided to grab breakfast.

we just happened to walk past marigold kitchen and figured that was a good choice! i was there with a friend a long time ago, so i was excited to try it again.

also, it was bumping.

it was about 8:15 on a saturday morning, but it was still full to the brim.

at marigold, you order + pay at the counter and then receive a number and go find a table.

by the time we had placed our order, a table opened up, so even though it was busy, they kept people moving, which was great!

we both decided to start with a mimosa. they sounded so good!

it was very tasty.

i had a really hard time deciding what to order for breakfast, but i eventually went with some sort of egg scrambler.

i fail because i’m really not sure what was in it. it definitely had roasted red peppers, other spicier peppers, and cheese. it was delicious though! also, the marigold potatoes on the side were some of the best breakfast potatoes i’ve ever had! and i did cheat and ate grains for this french rosemary toast. it was worth it. i’m a sucker for rosemary!

i would definitely recommend marigold as a great breakfast option in downtown madison! i already want to go back.

I prefer to make breakfast on my own, but I do enjoy going out to brunch once every few months! My favorite meal to eat out is lunch.

I love doing brinner! Looks like you found a good place. When we go out to eat, we usually go out because we’re both craving something. There’s a great local place called Zingerman’s Roadhouse that is known for their mac and cheese (an entire section of the menu!), good vegetarian is downtown, good mexican is also downtown. Just depends what we’re in the mood for! I love going to this local Italian place that makes a good risotto!

Love Marigold’s! I have been there for breakfast a few times (I agree completely about the potatoes) and twice for lunch (amazing butternut squash soup). My mouth is watering now :)

I am jealous! That’s on my list of places to go. I love going out for appetizers and drinks. It usually means I get to try a lot of things and don’t leave feeling stuffed. :)
