last weekend, brad and i spent saturday night hanging out w/ some friends.
we had plans to go to some craft beer week events downtown, but one was sold out and the other was completely packed, so we came up with an even better plan b!
first, brad and i grabbed dinner at capital tap haus.
i’ve reviewed capital tap haus on the blog before, but i wanted to add a second take on it since we ordered different items this time around.
we both started with a beer.
i had a doppelbock and brad got common thread, which is a beer that was brewed in collaboration with a few madison breweries. we liked both!
we decided to share an appetizer to start. at the recommendation of our waiter, we tried the reuben rolls.
it’s basically a reuben in egg roll form and it was delicious.
for his meal, brad ordered the fish fry (again).
he got haddock this time and thought it was very good.
i ordered a small california salad.
greens with tomato, red onion, sunflower seeds, alfalfa sprouts, and avocado with an avocado lime dressing.
i really liked it! i should have probably ordered the large version though.
overall, we enjoyed our second visit to capital tap haus. the food was fine – except the reuben rolls, which were great! it was also so nice to be able to be seated immediately on a saturday evening when our two first attempts were met with 45+ minute waits.
but remember how i said i should have gotten the large salad?
my hunger caught up with me a couple hours later when we were at alchemy for a couple more beers and some live bluegrass music!
alchemy has a pretty good beer list – there were quite a few that i wanted to try! i honestly don’t remember what i got, but brad got common thread again.
then i had to deal with my grumbling stomach.
our group shared an order of sweet potato fries.
wow. these were sliced more like chips, which i liked. but even more than that i loved the tarragon mayo and local jalapeno blackberry jam that they were served with. so good.
we also shared the batch bakery grilled bread of the night, which had portobello and another flavor – i really can’t remember.
unfortunately, i only got this pretty bad photo of the bread. it was also really great. as soon as i saw portobello on the menu, i had to try it!
this was our first time at alchemy, but we’ll be back! there menu looks really good – lots of things i want to try – and they have live bluegrass music on some saturday nights, so we will definitely go back for that!
did you eat any really good food this weekend?
it’s been a pretty normal weekend for us after last weekend. lots of good, fresh food!
