project life: 9.10.12: the first week

by Sarah Zinkel on October 2, 2012

i mentioned last week that i jumped on the project life train and i shared my album’s first page.

well, so far i am 100% love love loving everything about this project. i first heard of project life on elise and ali’s blogs and i wanted to start my own album immediately, but was waiting for the right time.

about a month ago, it occurred to me that there is no right time to start documenting my life. every week i was waiting was a week that would be missing from the album. so i decided to jump in with both feet!

i picked out an album, ordered a couple of things to get myself started, and got to work. the first week i documented was 9.10-9.16 2012.

like i said, i don’t have many supplies, so i kept it super basic and just went with what seemed to fit.

project life full week spread

most of the pockets contain photos, which i really like. they’re what tells the story!

i made a date card for the top of the left page and stamped the dates of the week on it. it’s messy & imperfect – like me!

as i’m finding my style with the album, i used a couple tricks that i’ve seen others do – like stamping a pattern and wrapping labels around photos to write on. i also love how elise prints a quote for each week. i’ve used a quote in all of my layouts so far. i get a couple delivered to my inbox each day, so i really like this way of using them instead of reading them and then deleting.

project life - right side of week spread

the right side of this week’s layout has some very “everyday” photos like our messy kitchen table after i got home from work, my shadow at the bus stop, my new watch, and the first leaves turning colors.

now that i’ve got 2 more weeks under my belt and am finding my groove with project life, i already think this first week is a little blah. kind of like when you look back at your old blog photos that you used to think were great, but now you laugh at them? that’s how i feel.

but that’s also why i’m loving it. i can already see an evolution and i’m only a couple weeks in!

can’t wait to see how the album evolves as time goes on. :)

do you scrapbook?

are you crafty in other ways?

i used to make random scrapbooks, but never really did it on a regular basis. i love project life because it’s all laid out for me. i’m definitely not a very creative person by nature, so this is sooooo my style of scrapbooking!

I used to be all into scrapbooking, but they really turned into glorified photo albums. I started making a scrapbook when I was 19 after my first Europe trip, but that kinda stopped. The only hobby that seems to have stuck is just plain ‘ol photography. One of the things on my 31 to do before 30 is to try a DIY project every month! Guess I should get started on that…

haha, yes! get on that girl. :) i love doing diy projects. they’re always so different from what i normally spend my days doing, that it’s always a breath of fresh air! i’m 100% sure that’s why i’m loving project life right now.
