number 3 on my 101 in 1001 list is “go apple picking”.
obviously, i was pumped to be checking that item off this weekend!
brad and i headed to appleberry farm in cross plains yesterday morning.
it was about a 30 minute drive through some beautiful back roads with gorgeous fall colors from our apartment.
when we arrived we were a bit confused as to whether we were supposed to take the hay ride to the apple trees (we saw one loading up right when we got there), but after we asked the very nice lady behind the counter, we got a map and headed to the apple trees.
i knew before coming that jona golds were on my list!
some of the trees were pretty picked over.
but then we found some really full ones just a row over!
we picked 9 lbs of jona golds, and then moved on to the ida reds.
(silly brad!)
after gathering 6 lbs of those, we went back to the little store area to pick out some pumpkins!
i picked out a little baby one
and brad got a big one!
i love seeing pumpkins on porches every fall, and now brad and i finally have one to decorate!
after we selected our pumpkins, i paid while brad brought some pumpkins to the car.
when i saw the cooler with cider, i knew we had to have some!
brad agreed.
it was such a fun fall afternoon with my love (despite it feeling like summer – 78* on october 9 is a little crazy).
now i have to use up these apples….
apple butter is in the crock pot (i made applesauce to use in the apple butter last night) and we already used 4 apples in juices…
i’m thinking another crock pot of applesauce this afternoon.
and maybe this?
i want to make apple bread or apple muffins (or both!) too.

i didn’t hear back from one of the cookbook winners, so i picked another one.
number 14, deb!

we got some apple cider yesterday too. and i love that brad was carrying the pumpkin by the stem. brett always yells at me when i do that and tells me i’m going to break it!
haha, the stem DID almost break a bit later! it started cracking.
but it’s still hanging on there.
