currently loving: podcasts

by Sarah Zinkel on May 22, 2013

i go through phases with my cardio entertainment of choice. i’ve gone though music, magazines, tv shows, reading books on my kindle, and now i’m onto listening to podcasts through my phone.

i found a great app on my phone (a motorola razr hd from verizon) called ipp podcast player. basically, this app allows you to search and download podcasts that are normally in itunes. this is amazing because one of the bummers (in my opinion) about the android platform is the difficulty in syncing with apple platforms (itunes, ical, etc.).

this app allows me to get around that and download all of my favorite podcasts to my phone for easy listening ability when i’m at the gym (or at work/in my car/working in the garden…).

podcasts

my top 5 favorite podcasts to listen to lately are:

1. stuff you missed in history class – new podcasts are available twice a week and they cover a huge variety of history topics! i always listen to new podcasts immediately.

2. radiolab – fun fact: a recent episode, “are you sure?,” featured a (creepy/scary) story that took place in my home town. give it a listen! i highly recommend this podcast in general. it’s got a kind of science-y focus, which i love!

3. savage love – i know this one is a kind of polarizing podcast, but i am a big fan. they’re also super entertaining to listen to while working out. by the time i finish a 45-minute podcast, my cardio is done!

4. npr’s it’s all politics – i am admittedly not as knowledgeable about politics as i aspire to be. i’m working on it & this podcast is helping!

5. this american life – because who doesn’t listen to and love this american life? enough said.

bonus podcasts:

1. the moth – similar to this american life in that it shares short stories around a new theme for each episode. i’d say the stories are a bit more hit & miss than this american life, but there are some gems!

2. npr’s planet money – i always learn something when i listen to this podcast! i wish it would teach me how to stick to a budget and avoid impulse purchases though. ughhhh…

now i want to know – what are your favorite podcasts? or…how do you entertain yourself during a cardio workout?

disclosure: i am participating in the verizon health and fitness voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product. as always, all opinions expressed on this blog are my own. for more information on the verizon voices program, see this post.
