will i surprise anyone when i tell you that grocery shopping day is my favorite day of the week?
no?
i didn’t think so.
i love grocery shopping.
picking the best looking produce and finding good deals is so much fun to me.
plus, a full refrigerator means so many possibilities for new meals and delicious kitchen creations.
so, i thought i’d show you my most recent grocery shopping haul (this is from over a week ago – i need to go shopping again today or tomorrow!).
everything i bought this time was from my local conventional supermarket. i did make a trader joe’s run this week to pick up almond milk, broth, almonds & cashews, and coffee, but i didn’t take any pictures of that!
this is mostly brad’s stuff. he drinks regular milk every morning with breakfast and eats an english muffing with nut butter. the deli meat, crackers, and cheese are for his lunches (although i have definitely had a slice or two of that pepperjack myself!). plus butter. because who doesn’t love butter.
this was to make brad happy too. i don’t cook meat often and kind of turned into an accidental vegetarian when i lived by myself. i just never really bought meat, but meals with meat are a priority for brad and i’ve been doing a bad job of including it lately. he specifically requested the brats and i picked up this big package of ground beef to make burgers, tacos, and sloppy joes.
now onto the good stuff!
these bags of frozen cherries and other berries were on sale for less than $2 each! that’s just insane. i usually buy frozen fruit at trader joe’s because their prices are normally way lower than at this store, but i couldn’t pass up this sale and i stocked up! 5 bags of cherries, a bag of blackberries, mixed berries, and a huge bag of blueberries for super cheap! i was so pumped about this find and i’m pretty sure the employee that was stocking the shelves right next to the fruit thought i was crazy the way i went nuts over these.
moving on…
more produce:
- oranges
- grapes
- apples
- cucumbers
- celery
- carrots
i’ve been juicing a lot lately, so stocking up on fruits & veggies is essential!
bananas are in the mix every week and asparagus will remain in the mix as long as it stays in season. i bought 3 lbs of it last week!
this week i also grabbed these sugar snap peas because they looked good (and then ate the whole bag in one sitting – oops!). and the strawberries were on sale so i picked up two containers of them as well.
this was a pretty typical week of shopping except for the meat. i usually do almost all of my shopping around the perimeter of the store. looking back at this, the only thing that i got from one of the inner isles were brad’s english muffins & wheat thins! not bad…
i also periodically have to stock up on our pantry staples, which i didn’t have to do at all last week. there have been a lot of posts around blog-land recently about pantry staples, so i don’t think i’m going to do my own post on it unless someone requests it.
juile has a great one (part 1 and part 2) and so does angela if you’re interested!

my practice for my seminar went ok yesterday. i was so thankful to do it though because i received a lot of advice on how to improve my talk. i have a lot of work ahead of me for the next week and i think this is going to be a working weekend…
i hope you guys have an awesome day & that you’ve got fun plans for the weekend!

what’s your grocery shopping strategy?
stay to the outside of the store?
only buy things with less than 5 ingredients? or ingredients that you recognize?
find the best deals?
i think mine is a combination of all of the above!
