catch-up

by Sarah Zinkel on May 29, 2012

hey hey!

did you miss me?

i thoroughly enjoyed my 3 day weekend even though we really didn’t do much. we stayed home friday and saturday night just putzing around the apartment and giving the dogs lots of walks. we went out to eat on saturday to a new-to-us restaurant called roadside. it’s just a couple miles from our apartment and brad had gotten some good recommendations for it.

i had veggie fajitas and brad got the whole rack of ribs.

we had so much food, but managed to eat almost everything except for some of the rice + beans that came with the fajita.

i swear i took pictures of our meals, but they seem to have disappeared. oh well.

brad also surprised me saturday by coming home with a bouquet of flowers completely out of nowhere!

i always tell him how tempted i am to buy flowers at the farmers’ market and he remembered and got these for me!

so sweet. :)

we headed back to manitowoc on sunday afternoon for a memorial day party at one of our friend’s houses. it involved a keg of beer, lots of pulled pork and delicious food, two adorable babies, lots of bean bag toss & washers, and then card games after we moved it inside.

it was really relaxed and we just had fun hanging out.

yesterday morning, brad and i went out to eat at the golden flame. it’s a restaurant in manitowoc that brad and his friends used to enjoy after a night out or even the next morning. so they have lots of greasy breakfast food. i kept things fairly healthy with an egg-white omelette filled with veggies and a side of potatoes. (didn’t finish that bread…)

brad also got an omelette plus an order of biscuits and gravy! gah. and our bill was $15. so cheap!

we kept things pretty lazy last night too. i took the dogs for a walk and did a quick run and then geared up for today.

now i’m all ready at my desk to face the day!

i’m doing a couple hours of work this morning then i’m volunteering at the garden until 4ish, picking up our csa (!!!), maybe hitting up the de forest farmers’ market, and then coming home to clean our apartment and do a little iin work. you’d think that i had plenty of time to clean this weekend, but somehow it didn’t happen.

today is also my first run of half marathon training! i’ve got 3 miles planned. i’m still debating if i’m going to go out soon after i publish this post, or if i’ll wait until tonight… tough decision!

oh yeah, and one more thing. i’m participating in runner’s world’s summer running streak along with just about every other blogger, apparently! :)

basically, i’ll run at least one mile every day between yesterday (memorial day) and the 4th of july to equal 38 days of running! since this happened to be a great add-on to my half marathon training, i had to jump on board!

day 1 is in the books & day 2 gets rolled into my 3-mile training run today.

i didn’t really feel like working out last night, but i didn’t want to mess up the streak before it even started, so i grabbed jake and took him out for a 2 mile walk to get my motivation up, and then i switched out the dogs and did a nice & easy mile run with capone!

i’m not sure about this runkeeper app though. it’s confusing me! when i took these pictures, it says 10:30 & 10:31 for my mile, and then as i was saving it, it went down to 10:24. i know that those 6 or 7 seconds don’t really matter, but i don’t understand why they said two different things!

anyone have a garmin they want to get rid of?! i kid! this will work for now. i do have to admit to looking up running watches on amazon though. maybe that will be my reward for completing  the 38-day running streak! :)

whew. ok. sorry for all of the rambles.

i just had a lot to get out after not blogging for a couple days!

what was the highlight of your memorial day weekend?

hooray! I am glad you are doing the run streak, too! I like that a bunch of my favorite blends are participatine – that will for sure help in keeping me accountable :)

Also – i totally think that investing in a Garmin is a good idea – ESPECIALLY as a reward of sorts! I ran for over two years before I got mine – I am glad I waited, to prove to myself that running was something I wasn’t going to give up on in a few months time- but I really treasure having the extra accessory now that I am more serious about my training and keeping up with my running!

also – today is my first day of my new training cycle, as well.
AND – I have a 3-miler on the schedule, just like you. WE ARE AWESOME! [now if only i lived back in mad-town and we could be running TOGETHER.]

Looks like you had a good Memorial Day weekend!! I agree the RunKeeper app isn’t the best…and I have a Garmin my sister is letting me borrow, but the battery refuses to stay charged! So I’ve been using the RunKeeper app more :\ Oh well. Memorial Day weekend was good for us! We closed on our house last Thursday and worked on moving things in and started painting!

Hi Sarah-
Glad you had a nice weekend. What half marathon are you training for?
I would say the highlight of this last weekend was running the Madison half. Despite the heat, it was a great race. :)

There’s nothing greater than farmers market flowers! I’m in on the streak too :)

I just ran my first half marathon this weekend! Take your time, and enjoy your training! I use a simple stop watch and map my runs online so I know where the mile markers are. I’m too cheap to buy a garmin, and every app I ever tried didn’t work.
