i had a major baking binge this week.
i was feeling a little bit left out on all of the holiday cookie/candy making this season since i hadn’t done any yet!
i definitely made up for it though. immediately upon waking up, i grabbed the list i prepared the night before and headed to the supermarket to get my supplies.
the lady who checked me out at the store laughed and asked me if i was doing any baking that day. i guess it was kind of obvious…
as soon as i got home, i got right into it! i don’t even remember what i made first, but it included lots of licks…
i broke out 4 kinds of jam…
…to make thumbprint cookies for the very first time!
(had to take a picture so i remembered which flavor was which when the cookies were done!)
sooooo many dirty dishes…
which made me realize that i need more baking supplies. i only have enough to make one batch at a time. that made my baking day highly inefficient!
and finally…
lots of cookies and candies!
my baking booty included:
- chocolate gooey butter cookies from courtney
- jam thumbprint cookies
- puppy chow (a family favorite!)
- chocolate covered cake balls
- willy wonka balls (another family crowd pleaser)
- peppermint bark
- cake batter bark (inspired by jessica, but i gave it my own twist to make it extra cakey.)
and i think we’re set on the holiday treats.
don’t worry though. as much as i wish we were keeping all of these delicious treats to ourselves, i packed up a couple tins for brad to bring into work and i’m bringing in a container of treats for my lab-mates too.
we definitely made sure to keep some of everything to enjoy at home over the next couple weeks as well!
i’ll surely have a handful of puppy chow tonight to celebrate the fact that it’s friday!
*****
have you done any holiday baking?
what’s your favorite holiday treat?
what are your plans this weekend?
tonight, we’re having dinner with some friends at aranda’s. tomorrow i’m making a grocery shopping trip to my favorite stores that are not so convenient now that we live farther from downtown: trader joe’s, the co-op, maybe even costco! we’re also planning to make more progress on our wedding thank you notes (we’re so close to done!). oh yeah, and watching the packers play on sunday too!
i think it’s going to be a good weekend!

I hope you enjoy the PB cookies. They are my FAVORITE, and the first on my baking list for the weekend!
In other news… what are willy wonka balls? I’m intrigued….
wily wonka recipe coming tomorrow!
They all look AMAZING!!!
thank you! i passed your cookie recipe onto a couple ladies that my husband works with – they loved them!
I wish I was one of your labmates! That is some serious baking. I’ve been doing quite a bit too and I must say, I’m pretty much burnt out on washing dishes.
I need to make some peppermint bark. Thanks for reminding me. Want to wash my dishes too?
haha, i think i’m burnt out on washing dishes! and i don’t want to get near a double boiler for at least a month – i melted so much chocolate!
you were a busy girl!!! and now you’ve got me wanting puppy chow!!!
haha, i ALWAYS want puppy chow! it’s so hard to resist though – that’s why i like to get it out of the house!
Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. My friend brought Muddy Buddys/Puppy chow/Whatever you call it to a party on Tuesday and I swear I practically dove face first into the bowl
hehe
i’ve never heard it called muddy buddys before! that’s cute.
Wow!! You out did yourself woman! That is quite the cookie haul! Everything looks absolutely delicious…even the thumbprint cookies and I’m not much of a fan of those normally. May I ask what a Willy Wonka Ball is?
LOVE Jessica’s cake batter bark! I made some last year and everyone loved it!
haha, i hadn’t really had many thumbprint cookies before either – i like them though. they’re very simple.
YUM! This weekend is our big cookie baking weekend for our family. My mom bakes over a thousand cookies. It’s insane, but delicious!
oh my gosh! that’s is a lot of cookies. what kinds do you make?
now i wish i had counted all of my cookies!
SO many treats, wow! I’m doing my baking and making of treats on Sunday; today I need to finalize my list of what I want to make and hit the grocery stores. I keep going back and forth ~ there are a LOT of things I want to make, but we just really don’t need a ton if stuff. So, we’ll see. I also have the issue of having to wash all the dishes between items… Not so fun! And I second the question ~ what are Willy Wonka balls?!
you could cut the recipes in half so you can try more things without having too much! and give some away!
willy wonka recipe is coming tomorrow morning. i wasn’t going to post it bc i thought everyone knew what they were, but apparently that is not the case…
WOW you are one serious baker. awesome!
yay! i see the little blue bowl that i got you for your shower
everything looks AMAZING, rose!
thanks, marge!
i love that bowl – and it looks so pretty with the white puppy chow in it! it was perfect.
haha, thanks! i definitely prefer cooking over baking – less chance of screwing things up. but christmas baking is a tradition that i love, so i do it anyway!
These look so great! I’m planning on doing my holiday baking this weekend as well, and want to try your cake batter bark recipe. I also love the photos your camera takes!
Wow, you really were busy! Lucky Brad’s coworkers/patients and your labmates who will benefit from your baking skillz.
