today feels like the first day of school to me! i’m back to my “normal” schedule – up at 5:30, catching the bus by 7, and in lab by 7:30. it feels very strange after spending the past 9 weeks our wrangling kids and gardening all morning!
it’s especially weird since i know i won’t get into a groove – i’m going to try to work all this week (if i can keep my mind focused), but i’m definitely taking all of next week off to prepare for the wedding (12 days – ahhhhhh!!!). this week is also filled with random meetings, appointments, and just playing catch-up. i definitely feel a bit out of whack.
yesterday was a great day for getting myself ready for the craziness of the next two weeks though! in the morning, brad and i cleaned our apartment really well!
- did dishes
- wiped down kitchen counters
- mopped kitchen/bathroom floors
- cleaned bathrooms
- and just straightened up!
i always feel so much better when the apartment is clean. anyone else feel that way?
after our cleaning spree, brad’s parents arrived for the day. they brought us a wedding gift that one of their friends gave us and dropped off at their house. it’s an awesome wine holder – i’ll post a picture sometime soon! they also came to bring us this great table for our porch.
it’s so nice! brad and i have been wanting a table for our porch pretty much since we moved in, so it’ll be perfect for dining al fresco.
our little porch looks so full & happy now! (don’t mind the chains on the grill/table – our neighborhood is safe, but we are just being cautious – we don’t want anything to be stolen!). i love all of our plants. plus, look at who is finally blooming!
mr. sunflower is so happy!
after setting up the table and wine rack, it was after 2pm and we were all starving for lunch! brad’s parents wanted to try out nitty gritty for burgers, and brad and i happily joined them!
the nitty is know as the place to go for birthdays in madison. you get a free mug and can drink soda and beer for free from 11am-midnight the day of your birthday! not a bad deal. we read on the menu that they average 50+ birthdays per day!
they have a pretty good menu. burgers are definitely the focus, but they also have several other sandwich choices, soup, and salad! i also love that you can order your entree without a side, and they take $2 off the price of the entree. most places charge you the same even if you ask for it without the fries or other side dish, so i really thought that was awesome.
i got a chipotle burger: a burger topped with chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and served on a kaiser roll.
i really liked it! i love spicy, and the cheese definitely added a little bite of spice.
and brad got the big grit: two 6 oz patties with wisconsin medium cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and gritty sauce, served on a dark seeded bun.
yeah, i think he liked it….
brad’s parents were both definitely satisfied with their meals too!
the only complaint i had is that the burgers are really big – 6 oz patties! i like leftovers (and brad is my personal clean-up crew), but that’s a little big for a burger.
we will definitely go back to the gritty – hopefully for one of our birthdays!
now i’m off to play catch up and organize my desk!
*i’m looking for a couple of friends to do guest posts the day before, day of, and day after the wedding (august 26-28). please leave a comment or email me at learningsarah [at] gmail [dot] com if you’re interested!
anyone else feel the “back to school” attitude in the air?!
being on campus every day and seeing people moving all over yesterday definitely makes me feel like the school year is upon us!
