hi, i’m sarah. i’m 27 years old and live in madison, wi with my husband, brad, and our two dogs, jake & capone. we bought our first house in july of 2012 and are slowly working to make it our own.
i started this blog in december of 2010 when i was a graduate student. at that point, my life revolved around school, research, and cramming as much information into my brain as it could possibly hold. now that i’m done with school (i graduated with my phd in nutritional sciences in december 2012), i am finding that i’ve still got a lot to learn!
i struggled a lot to find a routine that works for me after i graduated. i had to learn how to be a normal adult. your life is not your own when you’re a graduate student – you are at the mercy of your class schedule, your research, and your advisor – and that leaves almost no time for hobbies (reading & this blog were my hobbies during my 4.5 years of grad school). when i was a graduate student, i did the necessities and not much else. now i have a full time job and so many hobbies and interests to keep me busy when i’m not working. it’s strange to suddenly have so much free time, and i found it difficult to get it all done when i had so much time to accomplish things. i know that sounds weird, but i was so used to having certain things i had to do and very little time in which to do them. in that situation, you just frantically get as much done as possible when you have a spare 15 minutes and don’t even think about it. now i was struggling with too much time to think and not enough doing.
i definitely want to have it all* in this life, so i am still learning what works for me as far as being a good wife, being a good dog-mom, making meals at home, keeping the house clean, exercise, working on (and completing!) craft projects, blogging, reading, and so much more. i totally believe that at this point in my life, i can find a way to have all of those things.
maybe i don’t tackle every one of those things every single day (except for the good wife & dog-mom part!), but overall, i’d like things to balance out!
this blog is about my life. as is the case with most people i know, the way i spend my time changes. sometimes, all i want to do it knit, so i will post a lot of knitting projects. sometimes, i’m all about coming up with creative meals, so i post about food a lot. sometimes all i want to do is curl up with my boys and read a book. maybe then i write book reviews. i think keeping that variety is important in life and on the blog so i embrace the fact that this blog jumps around to just about any topic that interests me!
if this is your first time stopping by my blog, welcome! i recommend that you start with some of my favorite posts.
*note that my “all” is almost certainly different from anyone else’s “all”.
