a typical little tuesday

by Sarah Zinkel on September 19, 2012

yesterday ended up being a typical little tuesday around here.

we both woke up to brad’s alarm after i snoozed mine about 5 times and then turned it off. then, while brad was in the shower, i fed the boys and started on his breakfast.

brad's breakfast

we cook a whole package of bacon at one time and then keep it in the fridge to warm up for brad’s breakfasts during the week. i warmed up his bacon and made him two eggs. he always eats some yogurt and drinks coffee with breakfast too.

while i worked on brad’s breakfast, i also worked my way through some of my morning beverages.

morning beverages - aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, coffee

first up, aloe vera, then apple cider vinegar diluted with water, and finally, coffee as my reward!

after about an hour of getting ready and working on the computer, i mixed up my breakfast.

breakfast smoothie

smoothie time!

this one had vanilla sunwarrior protein powder, almond milk, spinach, a banana, and frozen blueberries and raspberries.

it was the perfect on-the-go breakfast to drink in the car on my way to work!

………..

i packed my lunch yesterday. it was just a hodge-podge of random foods.

lunch hodge podge

a honeycrisp apple, carrots, almonds, greens powder to mix with water at work, and my supplements.

………………………

dinner was courtesy of our csa!

dinner - salad and spaghetti squash

i steamed some spaghetti squash in the microwave and then topped it with garlic gold sea salt nuggets and then mixed up a little salad on the side. the salad had spinach and arugula on the bottom and cucumbers, green bell peppers, ham, and a hard boiled egg on top. i drizzled just a bit of ranch dressing on top too!

it was a perfectly satisfying little dinner!

…………………….

i’m working on taming my sweet tooth right now. brad and i got into some bad habits of ice cream far too often for dessert this summer. now i seriously crave it every night after dinner. it’s really difficult not to give in to that craving (we live so close to several ice cream places!!), but i’m trying to hold out for a couple more days until my body gets over this little sugar addiction.

ugh. it’s hard though.

……………………..

and as always on wednesdays, i’m linking up with jenn’s what i ate wednesday link party!

i definitely think you should click on over and see some of the other posts. i usually go through and click on the tastiest looking photos. it’s a fun game! :)

………………………..

are you trying to break any bad habits?

any tips for breaking a dessert habit?

Ugh. I hear you on breaking bad habits. REB and I have gotten into a horrible habit of splitting a piece of delicious cake from Whole Foods. HORRIBLE BUT IT HURTS SO GOOD. Luckily we bought some healthy after-dinner treats last night: TONS of fruit, cottage cheese and more yogurt :) Hopefully that will tame the sweet beast within for a few days ;)

Are the garlic gold sea salt nuggets a kind of spice?? It sounds awesome! And I love spaghetti squash :)

yes! it’s like garlicky and buttery sea salt. i am hooked on them! my sister picked these up for me at a little specialty market she shops at in california, but here is their website if you’re interested —> http://secure.garlicgold.com/products/garlic-gold-nuggets/ROGGNSS-2.3OZ-EA.html

Aloe Vera Gel? Interesting. What is it? I’m allergic to aloe vera so I couldn’t try it anyway, but I’ve never seen/ heard of that before

i started drinking aloe because many people have said that it helps with acne. it also is helpful for digestive issues, which i have plenty of as well!

I just tried Aloe Vera juice for the first time, it was really good! I don’t know if I would drink it all the time but as an occasional drink definitely.

Do you feel like the aloe very and ACV make a big difference?

well, i just started using them both regularly again after getting out of the habit for a while. i’ve only been using them regularly for a little over a week now, so i don’t feel much different. i’ll definitely update the blog on it soon though!

I also crave ice cream just about every night after dinner!!! The easiest thing for me was not quitting cold turkey, because then i would go on an ice cream/chocolate binge. I only allow myself every other day and while it did take me a week to adapt, i don’t crave it as much now and its more of a treat than a necessity!

Great eats and I like your reusable lunch bags, so cute. Using more fruits and natural sweeteners in savory dishes, like throwing chopped apple or banana into a stir fry or a blender sauce and having fruit when a sweet craving happens helps me. Keeping a bag of frozen grapes in the freezer is a great ice cream alternative.

thanks for the suggestion on the grapes, christine! i bought grapes to freeze every week this summer, but haven’t gotten any more recently. i’ll pick some up this week!

The hubs & i saw aloe vera juice the other day at the store and decided to pass it up because we weren’t exactly sure how it would taste. I’ll be sure to get some next time.

Loving your smoothie combination. Sounds delicious!
