the [somewhat] completed porch garden

by Sarah Zinkel on May 11, 2012

i worked a little more on our porch garden this week and i think i’m ready to share photos of how it’s looking and what i planted!

i know, you’ve all been dying to know, right?

first, let’s remember what the porch looked like before i started.

our porch

and in progress.

and now.

haha, i know. the garden doesn’t look like much. yet.

i can’t wait for those little plants to get bigger!

now, on to what i planted!

rosemary

sage

sweet basil x3

porch garden - basil

[lime] thyme

(no clue how it’s different from normal thyme other than it’s vibrant color!)

cilantro

porch garden - cilantro

cherry tomatoes x2

so basically tons of herbs and some tomatoes!

my mom is also saving me some pepper seedlings that i’ll get next time i go home. we also planted green beans and had good success with them last summer, so i might get a pack of bean seeds too!

i didn’t really have much of a process for my planting.

first, i  decided which plants were going to go in which planter.

and i physically put them in the planters.

then i added potting soil + water (when capone wasn’t drinking it…)

dog drinking out of watering can

to each planter and dug a hole for the seedling in the middle.

in went the seedling, and then i watered some more!

easy as that!

and some more progress photos because i like them.

now my plan is to water regularly and hope they get enough sun! :)

i’ll keep you updated on how they do.

*****

what vegetable would you want to plant in your garden?

i wish asparagus could grow in these planters – it’s my favorite and i spend a lot of money to buy it when it’s in season!
